Organizational Memberships and Dues

SUMMARY
Use of University funds for organizational memberships and dues may be permitted for institutional memberships in organizations which provide educational or professional service of value to the institution or to one or more of its component parts. Generally, University funds may not be used to pay individual personal membership dues in social, service or civic clubs.

Policy
Use of University funds for organizational memberships and dues may be permitted for institutional memberships in organizations which provide educational or professional service of value to the institution or to one or more of its component parts. Generally, University funds may not be used to pay individual personal membership dues in social, service or civic clubs.

Authorizations
Institutional memberships in organizations which provide educational or professional service of value to the institution or to one or more of its component parts are allowed to be paid with University funds. MU’s Chief Financial Officer must approve institutional memberships prior to acquisition to avoid duplication.
Memberships require the approval of the requestor’s supervisor and the approval of an authorized signer on the source of funds.

Payment
Departments should determine the most cost effective purchasing method for specific procurement needs in accordance with University Supply Chain Guidelines.
