Lost and Found

All items found by faculty or staff members, or turned into a department, shall be turned over to the Personal Property Reclamation Office (Lost and Found) administered by the University Police.

Found Items

All found items shall be turned over to the University Police (882-7207), 901 Virginia Ave.

Items Found by Employee

All items found by faculty or staff members shall be turned over to the University Police (882-7207), 901 Virginia Ave.

Items Turned in to a Department

Items turned in to a department should be reported to the University Police (882-7207) to arrange for transferring the items within 14 days. Departments should attempt to determine:

  • Name of the finder.
  • Where the property was found.
  • Any other relevant information pertaining to the discovery of the property.

NOTE: If the finder expresses an interest in retaining rights of ownership, direct the individual to the University Police (882-7207) 901 Virginia Ave. The University Police will advise the finder of rights of ownership under Missouri law.

Unclaimed Property

After an item has been held for a period of a least 60 (Sixty) Days, and is unclaimed the University may sell the property at a public auction, in accordance with Missouri Revised Statute 447.040.

Notice of Auction

Notice of an auction shall be published in the local newspaper at least five days before the auction.

  • Prior to the auction, any person claiming to be the owner of any item offered for sale may file written notice of claim of ownership with the organization conducting the auction.

Proceeds from the Auction

Proceeds from the sale shall be used by the University of a designated organization for a cause or purpose associated with the aims and endeavors of the University, as approved by the chancellor.
