Access to Locked Buildings

University buildings are to be locked at all times other than during regularly scheduled classes and normal working hours to maintain the security of the buildings and their contents.

Entering or Leaving a Locked Building

An individual entering or leaving a locked building shall be responsible for securing the door and may be held responsible for any loss or damage to University property resulting from failure to do so. [See also: BPPM 12:100  – Keys and ID Cards Access.]

Guests are Permitted

An authorized individual may have guests under the following conditions:

  • The guest must stay in the proximity of the faculty or staff member having the assigned key.
  • The authorized individual assumes full responsibility for the presence of the guest.

Unauthorized Access

An authorized individual entering or leaving a locked building shall not permit any individual to enter who would not normally be permitted to enter the building during the hours it is locked.

Unlocked Buildings

Buildings are unlocked during normal working hours and regularly classes, Monday through Friday form 7:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.

Change in Schedule

  • Notify the University Police (882-7201), 901 Virginia Avenue, in the event that a building is locked when it is scheduled by the business office to be unlocked.
  • Notify the building coordinator of any change in the normally scheduled hours that a building is to be unlocked.
