The News Bureau exists as a service to faculty, staff and students who are approached by media, or who are interested in gaining publicity in their areas.
Representing the University
In questions relating to programs, people, and policies of the University, the News Bureau staff members are designated to speak on the University's behalf and to assist faculty, staff and students who also may be acting in a similar role.

If You are Approached by a Media Person
You may wish to receive counsel from the News Bureau before you respond. Feel free to postpone your response until you have had time to reflect further or to seek consultation.
Please contact the News Bureau promptly when you anticipate that you might be approached by a reporter or when a reporter contacts you.
Faculty and staff who wish to provide personal comments on issues related to the University should make it clear to the reporter that they are speaking on their own behalf and not as representatives of MU or any other University employees, offices or organizations.
During times of crisis, it is important to have a single source handling responses to the media. A flow of accurate information is sustained and the tide of rumors/misinformation is stemmed when there is one point of contact for media response. In time of emergency or other crises, please refer inquires to the News Bureau (882-6211; or during the weekends/after-hours 999-8756), 329 Jesse Hall.
