Central Network Services

Public Internet Access

The Division of Information Technology is responsible for acquiring and managing the connection between the campus data network and the Internet and will advise the campus community of particular activities (such as assigning a .com, .biz or other commercial address) that might violate contractual obligations between the University and the University's Internet Service Provider (ISP). The Division of Information Technology will implement the necessary policies and procedures to ensure that contractual obligations are met and that the campus is a responsible member of the Internet community.

An IP address may not be established without authorization from the Division of Information Technology or an authorized departmental IT professional.

Domain Name Service (DNS)

The Division of Information Technology will maintain a central DNS server. Departments must obtain approval from the Division of Information Technology before deploying any other DNS server on the campus network.

Windows Internet Naming Service (WINS)

The Division of Information Technology will maintain a central WINS server. Departments must obtain approval from the Division of Information Technology before deploying any other WINS server on the campus network.

Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP)

The Division of Information Technology will provide centralized DHCP services. No other department may offer DHCP services without prior approval from the Division of Information Technology.
